The composite chart: the two of you as one

Enter two people’s birth details. You get one chart made from both, every planet at the midpoint of the two, and a reading of the relationship itself.

First person

The rising sign moves about one degree every four minutes, so this matters more than anything else on the form.

Pick the closest town. A few kilometres makes no visible difference to the chart.

Second person

The rising sign moves about one degree every four minutes, so this matters more than anything else on the form.

Pick the closest town. A few kilometres makes no visible difference to the chart.

One house system for both. Each person’s planets are placed in the other person’s houses, so the houses have to mean the same thing on both sides.

What you get

The composite wheel and its planets by sign and house, then the reading: how the two of you work by sign, how it fits together by aspect, and where your life together goes by house. To see how each of you meets the other, use synastry.

Questions

What is a composite chart?
One chart made from two. Each planet sits at the midpoint between the two people's: your Sun and the other person's Sun give the composite Sun, and so on for every planet. It is read as the relationship itself, the third thing two people make together, rather than as either of them.
How is it different from synastry?
Synastry lays one chart over the other and reads what each person's planets do to the other's, from one side. The composite reads the pair as a single thing, the same for both of you. They answer different questions, and this site gives both.
Does it have to be a couple?
No. Any two people make a composite: friends, a parent and a child, siblings, colleagues. The reading is written to be true for all of them.
Do we need our birth times?
For the houses and the Ascendant, both. They are drawn from the midpoint of the two Midheavens, which needs both times; without either, they are left out and the planets by sign and their aspects are read.
